Dragon's Blood (PBr25) is a modern synthetic organic pigment that produces a reddish-brown color.
Dragon's Blood is a historic natural pigment with a deep reddish-brown hue, originally derived from natural plant resins but now often replicated synthetically. Known for its rich, transparent color, it has been used since antiquity in art, varnishes, and even alchemy.
Natural Dragon's blood is rarely used in contemporary fine art because:
- Poor lightfastness compared to modern pigments
- Inconsistent quality and color
- Better alternatives available (quinacridones, perylenes)
- Limited availability and higher cost
- Conservation concerns with historical works containing it
